This thought-provoking session explores the emerging concept of AuDHD, the intersection of Autism and ADHD, as both a clinical reality and a lived experience. Through scientific insight, practical strategies, and a deeply human story, delegates will gain a comprehensive understanding of the challenges and opportunities in recognising and supporting individuals with overlapping neurodevelopmental conditions.
1. Understanding AuDHD – The Interface Of Autism And ADHD
Dr Khurram Sadiq will explore the genetic and morphological underpinnings of AuDHD, discussing its genotype, phenotype, and the evolving clinical typologies observed in practice. The session will examine whether AuDHD represents a distinct diagnostic entity or a point on the neurodevelopmental spectrum, alongside the concept of double empathy—how social understanding differences shape communication between neurodivergent and neurotypical people.
Learning
• How genetic and neurobiological research informs our understanding of overlapping autism and ADHD.
• How to recognise and differentiate the clinical presentations of AuDHD across the lifespan.
2. Management Of Audhd Balancing Two Realities
This segment focuses on evidence-based approaches to managing AuDHD, including both pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions. Dr Asif Bachlani will discuss the nuanced use of stimulant and non-stimulant medications, and how ADHD coaching, structured routines, and environmental adaptations can help maintain balance between autistic and ADHD traits.
Learning
• Integrating behavioural and coaching strategies
• Applying evidence-based frameworks to clinical practice for better outcomes.
3. The Story Of Adam
In a moving conclusion, Patricia Boeker shares The Story of Adam, a gifted musician with partially recognised AuDHD, who was misdiagnosed in four countries, struggled with substance misuse, and tragically lost his life to a fentanyl overdose. This real-world narrative highlights the risks of diagnostic fragmentation, the importance of holistic care, and the need for early, accurate recognition of overlapping neurodevelopmental conditions.
Learning objectives
In this webinar you will:
• understand the scientific, clinical, and emotional dimensions of AuDHD
• gain tools to improve Diagnosis proficiency and Management of AuDHD, both pharmalogical and pharmacological strategies
• reflect on their Clinical practice and Knowledge base on the interface of autism and ADHD
• renewed motivation to foster compassionate and person-centred care.
