This talk will give an overview of research on mental health in autism across the lifespan. It will focus, in particular, on new work exploring post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms in autistic adults. Our recent research suggests autistic people may be more vulnerable to developing PTSD, and do so following experiences that non-autistic people might not find traumatic. Qualitative and quantitative work, published and in progress, will be presented, with conclusions and implications for both theory and practice.
