Despite explicit recognition of Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD) in the classifications of mental disorders, knowledge of DCD amongst psychiatrists is generally poor, with limited appreciation of the broader phenotype and potentially significant impact on various domains of life, including relationships, education, employment and mental health. We will be joined by Prof Amanda Kirby, a leading academic, clinician and campaigner in the field of DCD. She was an author of the international practice recommendations published in 2019, has written over 100 papers and three books on DCD, and developed the Adult DCD Screening Tool, which has been translated into eight languages. This session also includes compelling accounts from two individuals with lived experience of DCD, to stimulate questions and discussion regarding the place of DCD in psychiatry, neurodevelopmental comorbidity, access to assessment and delivery of meaningful professional support for this often-overlooked disorder.
