Risk assessment and management of violence in general adult psychiatry

This module provides an introduction to the topic of violence risk assessment and management within psychiatry.

First, we outline some of the evidence which demonstrates a clear association between mental illness and an increased risk of violence.

We then look at the risk factors for violence and discuss risk assessment tools. Finally, we outline recommendations for managing the risk of violence in people with mental illness.

We also cover the debates and controversy which have animated this area of psychiatry.
