Aggression is a behaviour or emotion which can lead to harm to another being or group of beings. It is a broad topic and as psychiatrists it is important to have an understanding of how it develops, why it develops and how certain factors which relate to an individual can mean that they have a greater propensity towards aggression.

In psychiatry we often have to consider aggression towards the self, for example self-harming behaviour, as well as aggression towards others. This is often considered in the risk assessment.
