Neuroreceptors are integral to the day-to-day work of psychiatrists. Their function and response to psychiatric medications play an important role in clinical work.

A working knowledge of the different neuroreceptors including their structure and function can help augment other areas of the MRCPsych examination, including psychopharmacology and clinical presentations of mental illness.

In this module we will cover the processes involved in neurotransmission and the part neurotransmitters play in this process. We will also cover the different neuroreceptors including noradrenaline, serotonin, dopamine, GABA, acetylcholine, excitatory amino acids and neuropeptides.
