This session marks the launch of new Royal College of Psychiatrists guidelines, developed to support mental health professionals following patient-perpetrated homicides (PPH). Featuring insights from Julian Hendry, who leads the 100 Families group, this session will provide a comprehensive discourse on the deep emotional toll PPH takes on both clinicians and victims.

The discussion will address the rarely acknowledged impact on victims' families, who face profound grief and often feel isolated. Through this lens, the presentation will explore strategies for improving pastoral care, enhancing organisational responses, and reducing the devastating effects on everyone involved. Drawing on the newly established guidelines, the session will provide practical tools to mitigate emotional suffering for clinicians and families alike.

This guidance is not only a breakthrough in pastoral care for professionals but also acknowledges the importance of supporting victims, aiming for holistic recovery and learning
