The development of leadership and management competencies should be available to psychiatrists at all levels. This session will explore some of the ways in which this is can be facilitated.
The session will be chaired by Ananta Dave, Consultant Child Psychiatrist and Chief Medical Officer, NHS Black Country Integrated Care Board.
Associate Registrar for Leadership, Helen Crimlisk will describe the development of the national RCPsych Leadership and Management Fellowship Scheme. She will outline the value of a collaborative approach to development with leadership from the programme director, tutors, module leads and alumni developing a faculty of psychiatrists with leadership and educational competencies.
Medical Director, Mike Hunter will outline the value and process of a trust-led leadership and management development initiative to facilitate the development of skills across trainee, SAS and consultant psychiatrists. This has led to Sheffield Health and Social Care NHS FT becoming the first mental health trust to become affiliated with the Faculty of Medical Leadership and Management.
This session aims to give you:
- An understanding of a different range of approaches to supporting the development of leadership and management competencies.
- An understanding of the value of a systems approach to leadership and management development and linking leadership and educational competencies.
- An understanding of the particular challenges faced by some psychiatrist groups and methods by which these can be overcome.
