Overview
This session will focus on the changing healthcare landscape, current policy and research informing the delivery of effective mental health rehabilitation services for people with complex psychosis. Rehabilitation services comprise a comprehensive system provided by the NHS, social care, independent and social care sectors operating across inpatient and community settings. Whilst NICE recommends that rehabilitation services should be organised into care pathways embedded within local mental health systems, the volume of need and the complexity of the current rehabilitation system can make this challenging. People with psychosis continue to experience discrimination and health inequalities.
This session will cover national research and QI programmes that are helping to ensure we make the best use of the complement of services that provide rehabilitation and optimise their ability to deliver effective treatment and support. It will also consider how to implement initiatives that aim to reduce disparities in access, experience and outcomes for people receiving mental health rehabilitation provided across the various sectors that make up the whole system . This session is aimed at all clinicians working with people with psychosis and complex co-morbidity, with an emphasis on streamlining services and enhancing patient experience.
Objectives
- Update on the NIHR funded national research programme investigating the clinical and cost effectiveness of inpatient mental health rehabilitation being provided by the NHS and independent sector across England.
- Update on NHSE's national QI programme 'Getting it Right First Time for Mental Health Rehabilitation'.
- Gain an understanding of what mental health services provided by the NHS, social care, independent sector, and voluntary sector can do to identify and address the inequalities facing people with complex psychosis.
