Neuromodulation is increasingly being explored across the NHS as a scalable, mechanism-based intervention for mental health disorders. This session will review current developments from the economic case for implementation to the clinical integration of techniques such as transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) and transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS). We will discuss service models demonstrating feasibility and impact, including applications of tDCS in Mother and Baby Units and urgent care settings, where accessibility, safety, and rapid symptom relief are critical. The session will consider how neuromodulation can complement existing treatments, bridge gaps in care provision, and support the NHS’s goals of precision and personalised psychiatry.

Learning objectives

By the end of this webinar you should be able to:

• understand the economic considerations of neuromodulation within NHS mental health services

• compare the mechanisms, evidence base, and clinical indications for TMS and tDCS

• examine case studies of tDCS use in Mother and Baby Units and urgent care pathways

• discuss future directions for integrating neuromodulation into routine care and research within the NHS.
