Overview
In this masterclass we highlight, as members of the 2022 NICE Guideline Committee, what in our view are the key guideline recommendations (generated through evidence synthesis and consensus) and current best practice for mental health professionals when caring for people after self-harm, and we consider some of the implementation challenges for mental health practice.
Learning objectives
At the end of this session participants will be able to:
- outline the importance of compassionate and sympathetic care
- focus on why a psychosocial assessment rather than risk assessment is beneficial
- discuss the need for prompt aftercare, effective interventions, and how to ensure safety of people after self-harm.
