Building on previous years’ successful symposia, but with a change of focus in light of curricula changes, this year's symposium covers guidance on publishing and peer-reviewing that will be valuable for all. Professor Sam Chamberlain will provide ‘top tips’ on writing abstracts and posters based on his experience in academic psychiatry and in reviewing RCPsych Congress posters and prizes. This will include practical guidance to help people maximise clarity and impact, as well as things to avoid (common issues).

Dr Joan Marsh, Editor-in-Chief at Lancet Psychiatry, will consider what editors are looking for when people submit manuscripts for publication, and in the feedback from peer reviewers. She will highlight how people can get involved in peer reviewing if they have not had this opportunity before. Professor Vivienne Curtis will give advice on educational resources, including those available via the College, that can help people obtain research experience that can lead to publications and acting as a peer reviewer. She will also discuss how developing these research skills can help meet training curricula and GMC requirements.

This session will provide you with:

- Awareness of strategies to maximise clarity of communication and likelihood of success when publishing abstracts, posters and papers.

- Awareness that publishing and peer-reviewing are skills that can be valuable for everyone.

- Knowledge of how to get involved in peer reviewing and how to write a high quality peer review.

- Understanding of resources available to help publish and peer-review, including the role of the College.
