This session will provide an overview of how psychiatrists use social media. It will cover the types of social media, concentrating on Twitter as this is the one the speakers are most familiar with. There will be an introduction for those who are not experienced social media users. Guidance will be covered with particular reference to that produced by the GMC. There will be a discussion on the advantages and disadvantages of social media and how psychiatrists can maintain boundaries while using it. The speakers will draw widely on their personal experiences, both positive and negative. There will be time for questions and discussion at the end with an opportunity to book a one-to-one session for anyone who wants help in joining Twitter and starting to use it.

- To be aware of the guidance for doctors on use of social media particularly that provided by the GMC
- To understand how to set boundaries when using social media
- To be aware of the advantages and disadvantages of using social media as a psychiatrist
