TrOn – Attention and information processing

Attention is defined as:

'Notice taken of someone or something; the regarding of someone or something as interesting or important' (Oxford Dictionaries, 2015).

This module briefly outlines some of the key concepts in attention and information processing using models from psychology and will demonstrate how these concepts apply to psychopathology and your everyday practice.

Some of the tasks and techniques used for measuring attention will be discussed in conjunction with the neuroanatomy of attention.

Although attention and information processing are important in most disorders of the mind, there is a lot of interest in how they are altered in schizophrenia. Please pay close attention to attentional deficits in schizophrenia, which are likely to be part of the MRCPsych exams.
