In this session, we will discuss the evidence base connecting meaning and medication. We will consider the patient’s psychology, the role of the placebo/ nocebo effect as well as the importance of the doctor-patient relationship in optimising prescribing outcomes. We will discuss the psychodynamics of pharmacologic treatment-resistance. Finally, we will explore the prescriber’s characteristics and the unconscious processes exerted on the prescriber to “get it right”.
