Quickbite diagnosis of autism.jpg

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) has had an increasingly high profile over the last 10 years since the passing of the Autism Act 2009 (England and Wales). It is relatively common in the population and even more so in psychiatric clinics. It may present differently in some groups.

This module aims to give you further understanding of how to diagnose someone with ASD, the criteria and what they mean in practice.

Learning objectives

By the end of this module, you should be able to:

  • recognise the key differences between ICD-11 and DSM-5 when diagnosing ASD
  • identify the diagnostic features of ASD
  • recognise the importance of an informant and of a childhood history
  • state how features of autism differ over ability level, age and gender
  • give examples of sources for structuring a diagnostic assessment.
Availability

This module is available as part of a CPD eLearning subscription.
